Emotional Malaysians

Disclaimer: The entry can be best understood if you are Malaysian, or have been staying in this country for the past 10 years

Situasi

Seisi keluarga mengalirkan air mata menangisi kekalahan artis wannabe ke pusingan akhir Akademi Fantasiot.

Now, what am I trying to say here? Quantum Theory? Atomic Acceleration? Human Anatomy? Nayh. Simple as it is, how the stupidity of Malaysians is created and and passed onto their offsprings.

We malaysian we have a common traits shared by most of us - the tendency of watching entertainment-based show - lets me be specific, reality programme show. It does not matter whether if it is about singing, dancing, or talk/game show. The main source of our fetish here is well, you know it. Let me give tou a clue - it's a subsribed channel which name has the same syllable as ASS and THROW.

I am definitely have nothing against such show but it is baffling to see people practising their emotion at inappropriate places. On top of that, we have spent way more money on sms-vote than we ever had on donations. The usual cost for that kind of vote is RM0.50 and let say that a devotee of Akademi Fantasiot (a subtle name of an existing reality show) voted for his singer wannabe with 10 casts. Summing up, it makes the math for RM5.00, wgich is equivalent to 2.5 packs of Indonesia-smuggled cigarette.

Furthermore, the way we, Malaysians react to such programs is aghasting, and in the same time, puzzles me. We normal human beings with brains and mind of our own clearly know that every competition will contain defeat and victory. However, some of us cannot accept the way life is and cry to their heart content at both conditions: glory and defeat. The thing is, why should we cry when we gain nothing, neither do we lose anything; except for the stupid voting part. Why bother paying for something that will eventually  make you cry?Money is certainly not pubic hair that we can grow easily; please think wisely before you spend it.

I once watched a reality show that in this one particular segment, a random audience were selected to prove that he can really cry without any assistance from fake tear. A man failed and the camera view changed its focus to a crying female audience who WAS NOT ASKED TO CRY. And I was - WHAT THE FUN?

See? Our people has gone beyond my expectation. I thought we were heartless but we actually, are emotional and so incapable of thinking that obsessing ourselves with reality program will give us nothing in return except for the joy of crying over our own stupid obsession.

I did write about this not long before.

Malaysians love to watch these stupid shows and spend millions of dollars and eventually make few people behind the shows rich. The fact that we are aware of this scheme but choose to remain oblivious is pitiful.

Wasting unnecessary tears is just a waste of human resources. Gee, and yet we complain about the high cost of living, high fuel cost, high taxi rate and yada yada. Ignoramus!

Strongly agreed! Hahaha kadang2 rasa macam gila lawak dorang nangis sebab finalist yang dorang sanjung sangat kalah. Ngok gila. I dari dulu tak suka la rancangan macam ni. AF lagi lah.

I pun tak faham lah apasal nak nangis sebab program hiburan realiti ni. Masalahnya dah banyak sangat program macam ni. Idola kecil la apa la bintang kecil la. Macam dorang galakkan bebudak dari umur 8 tahun start dalam bidang hiburan. Pstu dah besar semua cita2 nak jadi penyanyi. Haizzzz. -,-

Hi! I passed by here via Nuffnang Xchange.

Yeah, I do agree with you. But I would like to say that the majority of the world are also like that. Don't judge only Malaysians. Well, they tuned into American Idol and cast votes on new stars like Adam Lambert, David Cook, Archuleta, etc. Those telecommunication companies are very happy with how much they earn through the reality show.

And yeah, I too felt weird on some who even cry when their "idol" got eliminated.

The truth is, these reality shows are all staged. Even the Kanye West - Taylor Swift conflict in the MTV Awards is staged too. And therefore, I heard many outrages in Facebook and Twitter. Of course, what the media do is to think of the most creative messages to reach out to the public. Thus, they create their own "reality" out of constructed fantasies.

Well, see how powerful the media is? )

An and Qis, I couldnt agree more with you girls =). As for Victor here, dude, I thought no one ever read my link there. Yes it is indeed true that everyone, almost all the people on Earth love such thing.

My pure intention was to relate this with Malaysian culture and the Muslim but I somehow have forgotten all that and even myself would say that this post is poor in content.

Oh indeed, the media is superbly powerful =D
